Archer wins 5th Title Predator Atlanta 9-Ball Open After a bye and a double hill loss, Johnny Archer fought his was through the loser's bracket to capture his 5th title of the year. His titles, which have come in events comprised of a large field of top pros, has further strengthen his bid for Player of the Year. It's possible that his duel with Efren Reyes for POY will be largely decided at The WPA World 9-Ball Finals in Tokyo. The event will conclude on November 9. Archer Rises to the SummitScorpion Captures 4th Big Title This Year Fury World Summit of Pool New York - Amsterdam Billiards Archer Dominates in the Big Apple Johnny Archer and Efren Reyes completed their second double this year when both won tournaments in the same weekend. Their victories added to their already impressive resumes and strengthened their bids for Player of the Year. Archer was dominant throughout the event as he posted a 9-1 record. He won nearly two thirds of his games as none of his opponents other than Danny Basavich, who sent Archer to the losers side, won more than 7 games in the races to 11. In the finals, Archer rolled over the red hot Santos Sambajon 13-5. The play of Santos Sambajon, a consistent winner on the Joss Northeast 9-Ball Tour, was nearly as impressive Archer's. Santos road to the finals featured a series of convincing victories that he capped by drubbing Jose Parica, the recent runner up in the U.S. Open, 11-2 to capture the hot seat. Archer vs. Reyes: The Race for Player of the YearArcher's win in New York was his fourth of the year in events that featured a full field of top professionals. Reyes captured the World Classic Billiards Tournament in Fujairah, beating Francisco Bustamante 13-4 in the finals. Other contestants included recent Thomas Hohman, this years winner of the World 9-Ball Championship and Earl Strickland. While the win was Reyes' fourth of the year against top pros, two of his victories have come in events that had fields with no more than 16 players. When Archer has not won this year, he has consistently placed in the top 10. The only real blemish on his record is a 33rd place finish at the World Pool Championship. So at this point, if the POY race was over today, Archer would get the nod. Archer & Reyes - Learn their Methods of PlayLast year I had the pleasure of spending countless hours at my video player watching Archer and Reyes in a classic duel that went double hill. My findings are revealed in a 200-page book that analyzes the match and dissects their methods for achieving superior results. The book comes with a video or DVD of the complete 21 game match. After the match 25 shots are analyzed using slow motion and a telestrator. After having put so much work into the project, I am pleased to see that these two great ambassadors for the sport are still playing great pool seven years after the match took place.
