Mission Statement
To continuously research new ideas that can help you to play your best pool.

About Capelle Research
I love venturing into the unknown just to see what may lie around the corner. And I fully subscribe to the theory that one thing leads to another. When I'm conducting researching, invariably some new concept will spring up out of nowhere. To me, the process of researching pool is truly fascinating as the balls often reveal things you might not have imagined possible. Even though the journey is it's own reward, the main purpose of my research is to discover information that can help you play better pool

Replace Fiction with Facts
There is so much talk about pool theory that simply flies in the face of reality. This is certainly understandable given the fallibility of human perceptions. A main purpose of scientific research is to replace fiction and unproven theories with the facts. Once the facts are known, you have a concrete basis for developing theories about how the game really should be played.

Part of my research involves playing the same shot over and over again. After shooting the exact same shot several times, it becomes clear from the action of the balls whether the shot has a high probability of being pocketed, or whether it is even somewhat probable or even impossible. This is the kind of knowledge that can help to decide whether to go for a run out or play safe. Similarity, you can learn the high percentage position routes and also discover those which are next to impossible.

Statistics of  pro matches  reveals their level of performance This can be helpful in managing your expectations. For example, if you know that the best players in the world break and run out less than 30% of the time, then you would learn not to be disappointed with a break and run average of perhaps 10-20%. Learning the performance figures of the best players can also be useful in setting realistic goals for various departments of your game. If the pros make contact on 85% of their kick shots, then you have a standard against which you can assess your game.

Research also reveals which strategies make the most sense given a number of factors that include your level of play as well as that of your opponent. A C Player playing another C player should not use the same strategies as an A Player who is up against another A Player.

Research Methods
I use a variety of methods to conduct research. I carry two pens (in case one runs out of ink), blank pool table diagrams, and paper everywhere I go, cause I just never know when an idea might appear out of nowhere. When I watch people play, I'm always thinking about what I would do, what they did, and if they've just shown me a new and better way to play a shot or handle a certain situation. I watch players at all levels as I'm interested in learning what to do, and also what mistakes to avoid.

When I go to the poolroom, it is often with a list of shots I want to explore. When I watch Accu-Stats Videos, I make active use of the rewind button, slow motion and freeze frame. I learn from reading about other sports as I feel so much of the mental side of the game is transferable from other sports, especially individual ones like golf or tennis. And of course I also learn from my own successes and failures as a player.

Some of my most enjoyable learning experiences come when I talk pool with other players and teachers who share my passion for the game. These sessions never fail to produce new and exciting insights into the game. In short, the classroom for pool is always open, and I'm always a most willing student. And finally, some of the best lessons come when I'm in the process of teaching someone how to play.

Disclosing My Findings
Many of my findings have appeared in my books and articles in Pool & Billiard Magazine. In the months and years ahead, I plan to publish new discoveries on this web site. I hope they can help you to take your game to a new level.
